Google Duo will add deeper integration into Phone dialer, Contacts Messages app

Back in June, Google integrated video calling app, Duo to Allo, allowing users to make video calls right from Allo. Now it will soon extend the Duo integration to Google's Phone, Android Messages and Contacts app. This means you will be able to make Duo video calls within these apps.

Android Police has spotted a new video call button on the in-call screen of the Pixel 2 XL. When you're on a voice call, the in-call screen (of the dialer) will show the voice call button, and tapping it disconnects the ongoing voice call and starts a video call with that person via Duo.

The Duo integration will also come to Google's Contacts app, and the video call button will show up next to the contacts name. Taping the video call button will trigger a video call via Duo.

The video option will also show in the call history and search section of the phone app. On Android Messages app, the video option will be available in a Message conversation.

It's worth mentioning that the video call icon appears only if both the caller and receiver have Duo app installed on their device.

This is similar to how FaceTime video and audio calls are integrated in Apple's Phone app, wherein the caller and receiver can make face-time call from the phone app via iOS device only.

The Duo integration is live on version 13 of Google Phone app, and will be available in version 2.1 of contacts app, and version 2.6 of Android Messages app.

Earlier this year, Truecaller also integrated the service of Duo into its app, allowing users to make video calls via Truecaller app.
