Android Oreo present in 0.2 percent of Android devices, Nougat at 17.8 percent

Another month, and Google has released the updated Android distribution numbers for the month of October. And the big news is that Oreo has finally made its debut in the chart. On the other hand Nougat is rising steadily, and other Android versions continue on the decline. However, Marshmallow continues to be the most widely-used Android version.

According to the latest number Android Oreo is now running on just 0.2 percent of active devices. The number is small, but is not surprising given that only Google's Nexus and Pixel devices are running Oreo, and there are a billion non-Google devices out there. The numbers are likely to rise in the coming months.

Speaking of Nougat, it is up two percent from last moth's 15.8 percent, and is now running on 17.8 percent of the active devices. The most widely used Marshmallow is now present on 32 percent of active Android devices, down 0.2 percent, than last months 32.2 percent. 

Lollipop is now present on 27.7 percent devices, down 1.l percent, from last month's 28.8 percent. As for the other Android versions, Kitkat now sits at 14.5 percent (down from 15.1 percent), Jelly Bean is at 6.6 percent (down from 6.9 percent) and Gingerbread still at 0.6 percent (same as last month).

The Android Distribution numbers are gathered from devices running Android 2.2 accessed the Play Store in a seven-day period ending on  October 2, 2017. It's worth mentioning that devices running older Android version like Honeycomb and Froyo are not included. Also devices that don't have Google Play installed like Android phone and tablets in China, are not taken into account as well.
