Samsung reportedly starts Android Oreo development for Galaxy S8

Android 8.0 Oreo was officially announced last month, and as usual, Google devices like Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were first to receive the update. It also provided OEMs source code to start working on Android Oreo for their smartphone. Companies like HDM Global (Nokia), Sony, HTC, OnePlus, Micromax and others have promised that they will update their latest devices to the new operating system.

Recently it was reported that OnePlus is testing Android Oreo on the OnePlus 3 in a closed beta program, and now Samsung is following suit.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has begun work on Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The report says that Android 8.0 update firmware version for the Galaxy S8 is G955FXXU1BQI1 and Galaxy S8+ is G950FXXU1BQI1.

Unfortunately it is not known when the beta testing will begin, and when the final stable release will be out for the public. However, the report mentions that once Oreo is ready for the the final release, it will be rolled out worldwide much faster than last year, as Samsung has started using multi-CSC firmwares.

If you remember, last year Samsung started testing Android Nougat for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in November 2017. However, after repeated delays the phones finally got Nougat in Januaray 2018. It appears that Samsung want to get things right this time, and roll out Oreo faster to the popular Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
