Possible Redmi 5A spotted on TENAA

A new Xiaomi "Redmi" series smartphone carrying model number MCT3B has been certified by China's TENAA, revealing the specs and product shots.

The device in question is believed to be the follow up model of Redmi 4A dubbed Redmi 5A. Designwise, it looks similar to its predecessor with few tweaks at the rear. It does not get a fingerprint scanner as well.

In terms of specifications, nothing much has changed, and are same as its predecessor, except the selfie camera and software. Just like the Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A is expected to feature 5-inch HD display, 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 13MP rear camera and a slightly smaller 3000mAh battery (vs. 3120mAh).

The changes are 8MP selfie camera instead of 5MP camera and Nougat based MIUI 9 instead of Marshmallow based MIUI 8.

The listing also reveals that Redmi 5A will be available in a variety of color including Black, Rose Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray and Silver.

It is not known when Xiaomi plans to release the Redmi 5A, but since it has been certified by TENAA, an official announcement can be expected soon. It can be expected to be priced around Rs. 6,999, same as its predecessor.
