Sharp Aquos S2 goes official with bezel-less design, dual-cameras, Snapdragon 660

As expected Sharp has officially unveiled the bezel-less Aquos S2 at an event in China. The Japanese electronics company had already revealed a few details regarding the bezel-less design, and now the entire specs sheet, availability and pricing have been announced.

The Sharp Aquos S2 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD+ (2040 × 1080 pixels) 2.5D Gorilla Glass display, and has a screen-to-body ratio of 87.5 percent  with minimal bezels on top, left and right sides for a full screen design. Sharp says it was able to achieve this using FFD (Free form display) technology, and made small holes precisely in the screen for front camera and receiver.

However there are thick bezels at the bottom, and the fingerprint sensor is placed on the front below the screen and is embedded into the physical button, instead of being rear mounted like Essential phone, LG V30 and Galaxy S8 & S8+.

It gets vertically placed dual-camera setup at the back comprising of a 12MP f/1.75 sensor with PDAF, and an 8MP secodary camera for capturing depth information offering background blur. The front facing selfie shooter is a 8MP f/2.0 sensor.

Sharp will sell the Aquos S2 in two variants: Snapdragon 630/4GB RAM/64GB storage priced at CNY 2499 ($372 | Rs. 24,000), while the high-end model will feature Snapdragon 660/6GB RAM/128GB storage. It will cost CNY 3499 ($521 | Rs. 33,300).

It will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat with the in-house Smile UX UI on top and packs 3020mAh battery. It also gets RoBoHon's RoboS AI assitant as well. Other specs include dual-SIM & microSD card support, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C port and Quick Charge 3.0.

The Aquos S2 is now available for pre-order from jd.com, and will go on sale in China starting August 14. Color options include Back, White, Blue and Green.
