Microsoft schedules May 23 event in Shanghai to show the world what's next

Microsoft at its May 2 education event in New York introduced the $999 Surface Laptop running the new Windows 10 S operating system, aimed at the education market. Now Microsoft has scheduled another event later this month, on May 23 in Shanghai, China to show the world what's next.

The company has also set up a dedicated page for the #MicrosoftEvent that reads "On May 23 in Shanghai, Microsoft will show the world what’s next."

While there are not much details, what Microsoft will be showing at the event, it is expected that the company will share news about a new hardware product. Also Panos Panay, Corporate Vice President of Devices and Surface, will be present at the event, which hints that Microsoft will introduce in a new Surface device, most likely the Surface Pro 5.

Previous reports have suggested that there will be "nothing dramatic" about the Surface Pro 5 compared to its predecessor, and will get a processor upgrade. It will be powered by Intel's seventh-generation Kaby Lake 14nm processor, so the the Surface Pro 5 should be speedier, capable of handling more tasks and offer improved battery life over Sky Lake-powered Surface Pro 5. It will also retail the Surface Connect power connector, and will be compatible with most of the existing Surface accessories.

We can also expect Microsoft to share more news on Windows Mixed Reality platform as well. Whatever Microsoft's new product is, we will get to know more about it later this month.
