Xiaomi Redmi 4 series launch expected in India on March 20

Xiaomi is riding high on the success of Redmi Note 4 in India, so far selling more than 1 million units of the phone in just 45 days since launch. But, the Chinese smartphone maker is not stopping there as it all set to launch new affordable budget smartphones.

The company has sent out invitation for a press event scheduled for March 20 in New Delhi, where it is expected to launch the Redmi 4 series, which includes the Redmi 4 & Redmi 4A. The invite does not mention the phone is Redmi 4 or Redmi 4A, and just says "Time To Get Smarter", with the focus being on the 4 and A symbol. So it is safe to assume it is the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A or any one of them.

The Redmi 4/Redmi 4A was launched back in November last year, and will be the successor of  Redmi 3S/Redmi 3S Prime, which also helped Xiaomi boost its smartphone sales in the country. Xiaomi also unveiled an exclusive offline-only variant called Redmi 3S Plus to reach the offline customers as well.

To refresh the specs, the Redmi 4 has 5-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, 13MP/5MP cameras, fingerprint scanner, 4G VoLTE and 4100mAh battery. It is priced INR equivalent of Rs. 9,000. There's another version of Redmi 4 with Snapdragon 430, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, and price tag, INR equivalent of Rs. 7,000.

The Redmi 4A is a more affordable option featuring 5-inch HD IPS display, Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage, 13MP/5MP cameras, hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE and 3120mAh battery. However, it will not have a fingerprint scanner. The Redmi 4A sells in China for INR equivalent of Rs. 5,000, so the price in Indian market could be below Rs. 6,000.

We will have to wait till next Monday, to know which Redmi 4 version(s), Xiaomi is bringing to India.
