Xiaomi MIX 2 already in the works

Last year, Xiaomi unveiled the innovative and futuristic looking Mi MIX in China, boasting bezel-less design with 6.4-inch display and 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. Even though Mi MIX was exclusive to China market, it received huge applause from masses and critics from around the world. It was also showcased at CES 2017, Las Vegas as well.

Now work has already begun on its successor with a new design. Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun took to China's popular social networking platform to confirm that MIX 2 is work-in-progress. Jun said that Mi MIX 2 will be designed by Frenchman, Philippe Starck, who previously designed the MIX. He also said that Starck has some idea for the device, and both will explore how quickly they can bring the idea to reality.

Rumors suggest that Xiaomi will try to achieve screen-to-body ratio of 93 percent on Mi MIX 2. It is also likely to be made out of ceramic and the entire screen will cover the entire font part, while ditching the physical buttons.

Xiaomi was able to give MIX the bezel-less design by using ultrasonic technology (hidden behind the display) and Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustics system instead of the traditional earpiece speaker. Moreover the front camera was moved to the bottom end of the screen and was 50 percent smaller compared to the regular sensor.

Apart from Xiaomi, Samsung and Apple are also working on bezel-less phones. Based on leaks and reports it is almost confirmed that Samsung's Galaxy S8 will flaunt an bezel-less design. Apple on the other hand is also said to unveil a bezel-less iPhone 8 later this year, to mark iPhone's 10th anniversary.
