Report: Google and LG to announce two Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches on February 9


Google has already confirmed that it will launch two Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches in Q1 2017. Now according to a report from VentureBeat (via Evan Blass), Google will team up with LG in a Nexus-like partnership, to launch two smartwatches dubbed LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style. These smartwatches will be unveiled on February 9, when the new Android Wear 2.0 platform will be launched.

The news comes soon after Evan Blass revealed that Android Wear 2.0 platform will launch on February 9. Blass has also revealed details of both the smartwatches as well.

The LG Watch Sport will be 14.2mm and will be available in titanium and dark Blue hues, while the The LG Watch Style will be slightly slimmer at 10.8mm thick and will be available in titanium, silver and rose gold hues, with the option of swappable straps. Both smartwatches will feature circular OLED touchscreen with a side button for navigation and have Google Assistance integration.

The LG Watch Sport will reportedly feature 1.38-inch (480 x 480) display, 768MB RAM, 4GB storage, 430mAh battery, WiFi, 3G, LTE and Bluetooth. It will be IP68 rated for water and dust resistance and will be equipped with GPS, a heart rate monitor and NFC for Android Pay support.

The LG Watch Style will have a smaller 1.2-inch (360 x 360) display, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, WiFi, Bluetooth and 240mAh battery. It will be IP67 rated for water and dust resistant.

The two smartwatches will go on sale on February 10 in the U.S and will rollout to other regions through February and March. They will also be showcased at MWC as well. Do keep in mind, Google is yet to officially confirm the report.

Google is also expected to roll out Android Wear 2.0 in February to supported existing smartwatches bringing new features like on-watch Play Store, standalone apps, new keyboard with gesture support, handwriting recognition, Google Assistant, Android Pay and more.
