Alcatel will reportedly launch five smartphones at MWC, including a modular phone

According to a new report, Alcatel will unveil five smartphones at MWC in Barcelona next month. Details of these phones are scarce, except for one which is said to have a modular design.

Last year LG (G5) and Motorola (Moto Z series) also launched modular (semi) phones but they had different approach. In LG's case, the chin of the G5 could be swapped with modular accessories called friend, while in case of Moto, the Moto Z came with add-on accessories called Moto Mods, that would snap (via high power  magnets) to the back of the device.

Alcatel's modular system of adding additional functions will be achieved through swappable backcovers. As of now it's not clear what added functionality these modules will come with, but in one of the image, accompanying the report, shows a module attached to the phone that has an array of LED lights, that will glow in different colors, when music is played. For instance like JBL Pulse speakers, which comes with LED lights that pulse to your music.

The semi-modular smartphone will feature octa-core MediaTek chipset and 13MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. It is expected to carry a price tag around €320 ($342 | Rs. 23,000). Unfortunately other specs are not known.

Alcatel's MWC press conference will take place on February 26, and we will know more details on that day.
