Xiaomi Mi MIX with edgeless design, 91.3% screen-to-body announced

Alongside the Mi Note 2, Xiaomi also unveiled its concept smartphone called Xiaomi Mi MIX, which it will be making available for purchase next month. The main highlight of the phone is its design. Xiaomi said that the design of MI MIX was conceptualized by popular French design Philippe Starck.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX flaunts an all-ceramic body and an almost bezel-less design. It sports a bigger 6.4-inch edge-less display with 91.3 screen-to-body ratio. Unlike most other smartphones, Mi MIX doesn't have a bezel on top which usually houses earpiece, front camera and sensors, instead, the front camera has been re-positioned to the bottom-end of the screen, which is 50% smaller than a standard camera sensor. As for the sensors, it uses ultrasonic technology, instead of the standard proximity sensor, and uses Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system instead of a standard earpiece, allowing you to listen to calls without the earpiece.

As for the specs, the Mi MIX runs MIUI 8 based Android Marshmallowis powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB/6GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage. It comes with a 16MP rear camera with dual-LED flash and PDAF, and 5MP front facing camera.

In terms of connectivity, there's support for dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, USB Type-C, NFC WiFI 802.11ac and GPS with SAP. It is fueled by a 4400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support and has a rear-moutned fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi's Mi MIX comes in two versions: the standard version with 4GB RAM/128GB storage priced at CNY 3499 ($516 | Rs. 35,000) and a Pro version with 18K gold rims around the camera and fingerprint scanner, 6GB RAM and 256GB storage priced at CNY 3999 ($590 | Rs. 40,000). It will go on sale in China from November 4 in a single black color. It comes with an optional leather case made out of European ecco leather which costs CNY 299 (Rs. 3,000 | $44)
