Meizu M5 with 5.2-inch display, 3GB RAM, fingerprint scanner announced


Meizu has announced a new budget smartphone in China dubbed M5. The brand has opted for a polycarbonate material for the body instead of metal used on its earlier high-end and mid-range phone. It also includes the mTouch 2.1 fingerprint scanner baked into the home button, which can unlock the device in 0.2 seconds.

The Meizu M5 features a 5.2-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor backed by Mali T860 GPU and 2GB/3GB RAM. It comes with 16GB or 32GB on-board storage, which can be expanded via microSD card.

There's 13MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF and f/2.2 aperture and 5MP front camera. Connectiivty options include hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS/ GLONASS. It is fueled by 3070mAh battery and runs Alibaba's Android based Yun OS 5.1 with FlyMe OS 5.5 on top.

The Meizu M5 comes in two versions: 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage priced at CNY 699 ($103 | Rs. 7,000) and the other with 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage costing CNY 899 ($132 | Rs. 9,000). It comes in Mint Green, Glacier White, Champagne Gold, Sapphire Blue and Matte Black colors, and will go on sale in November.
