Xiaomi Mi 5S with Snapdragon 821 SoC, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor goes official


Xiaomi has just unveiled its latest flagship smartphones dubbed Mi 5s at an event in Beijing today. As expected, the Mi 5s is the world's first smartphone to have an under-the-glass fingerprint sensor called Qualcomm Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which works even with wet or dirty hands.

The Xiaomi Mi 5s has a 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display and is powered by 2.15GHz quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor backed by Adreno 530 GPU. It comes in two variants – 3GB RAM/ 64GB storage and 4GB RAM w/ 128GB storage.

The camera department is handled by 12-megapixel Sony IMX378 rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (phase-detection auto-focus) resulting in quick focus, 4K video recording and 120fps slomo videos at 720p. For selfies and video calling it gets 4-megapixel 80-degree wide-angle front snapper.

Connectivity duties are handled by dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC and USB Type-C. It is fueled by 3200mAh battery and supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Software-wise it runs MIUI 8 based Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Xiaomi Mi 5S sports a full metal unibody design and measures 8.25mm around the waist. It comes in Dark Gray and Golden colors with glossy brushed metal finish, and Silver and Rose Gold colors with frosted matte finished.

The 3GB RAM/ 64GB storage model of Mi 5S is priced at CNY 1999 ($299 | Rs. 20,000), while the 4GB RAM/ 128GB storage model costs CNY 2299 ($344 | Rs. 22,910), and will go on in China starting September 29.
