Xiaomi Mi 5s will reportedly feature Snapdragon 821 SoC, 6GB RAM and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor

Xiaomi is reportedly working on a more powerful version of its flagship, the Mi 5 which is called Mi 5s. We first heard of the phone in June earlier this year, when a rumor claimed that the Mi 5s, will feature pressure sensitive display, Qualcomm's ultra-sonic fingerprint scanner, Snapdragon 821 SoC, dual camera setup, 6GB RAM and 5.15-inch 1080p display.

Now multiple reports confirming most of above details have surfaced online. First up, the Mi 5s has been spotted on AnTuTu revealing key specs. According to the benchmarking website the Mi 5s will feature 5.15-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 821 SoC w/ Adreno 530 GPU, 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. It will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based MIUI.

A separate leak claims that the Mi 5s will be available in two more variants. In addition to 6GB RAM/256GB storage, there will be 3GB RAM/64GB storage and 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variants. The new leak also suggests that the phone will have a single rear facing 16MP rear camera, instead of dual-cameras, with 4-axis OIS, PDAF and aperture f/1.8. Other specs include USB Type-C, NFC, and a 3490mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.

Moving on, a post in China's social networking platform, Weibo suggests the Mi 5s will sport Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. For those unaware, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor recognizes user's fingerprint using ultrasonic waves to scan and create a 3D model of it. The advantage of the sensor is that it can work through different material like steel, sapphire, glass and plastic. The LeEco Le Max Pro was the first smartphone to use this technology.

Xiaomi will place the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the phone's glass front panel, allowing users to touch the screen anywhere and unlock the device. Furthermore, the Mi 5s will no have a physical home button in the front, instead it will sport capacitive keys like the one found on Mi Max.

Currently it is not known when Xiaomi will officially unveil the Mi 5s, but it will release before the year ends.
