Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Helio X20 SoC, 4100mAh battery gets official

Xiaomi has announced the successor of the hugely popular Redmi Note 3 dubbed Redmi Note 4 in China. Similar to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 4 sports metal unibody design but now it has chamfered edges and 2.5D glass on the front. The phone is also slimmer than  Redmi Note 3 at 8.35mm (vs 8.7mm), and lighter at 175g (vs 164g).

The Redmi Note 4 features 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by 2.1GHz deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor backed by Mali T880 MP4 GPU. It will be offered in two variants – 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage and 3GB RAM/ 64GB storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card.

For photography, the Redmi Note 4 gets 13-megapixel unit at the back with PDAF, dual-tone LED flash and f/2.0 aperture, while on the front there's 5-megapixel 85-degree wide-angle shooter for capturing selfies.

Connectivity duties are handled  by hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS + GLONASS. It runs Android Marshmallow based MIUI 8 and has a fingerprint scanner on the back. A beefy 4100mAh battery keeps the device running.

By comparison with Redmi Note 3, nothing much has changed with the Redmi Note 4 with the exception of processor and main camera. The Redmi Note 3 featured Helio X10 SoC (China)/Snapdragon 650 SoC (India), 32GB storage for top model and 16MP rear camera.

The 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant of Redmi Note 4 is priced at CNY 899 ($135 | Rs. 9,000), while the 3GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant is priced CNY 1199 ($180 | Rs. 12,000). The phone comes in Gold, Silver and Gray colors, and will be available in China starting from August 26 via Mi online store, China Mobile and other online retailers. There is no word on global availability, but we can expect the Redmi Note 4 to land in India in the near future, given the success of Redmi Note 3.
