Reliance Jio 4G services commercial launch expected in August


According to new report from Economic Times (ET) and The Hindu, Reliance Industries subsidiary Jio Infocomm, could roll out its highly-awaited 4G services as early as next month and the launch date could be August 15.

ET reports that Jio's maiden plan is likely to be called freedom and may offer free voice services bundled with data, priced 25 percent lower than its competitors. The plan's name is a reference to India's Independence day falling in August.

Under Freedom plan, subscribers will need to buy data packs, which will offer 1GB data at around Rs. 80 in addition to free STD and local calls. For reference current operators charge around Rs. 100-120 for 1GB data.

To recap, Reliance Jio launched it 4G services in December 2014 for its employees and later started rolling out LYF branded smartphones.. Last month Jio's website went live and started taking registrations for network trials. Soon after its starter sending invite for Jio preview offer for those who signed up.

Currently LYF smartphones are available for as low as Rs. 2,999 and comes bundled with 3 months of unlimted 4G data on Jio network, 1500 VoLTE calls, HD video calls, 9,000 SMS and full access to Digital life for three months.

Reliance Jio currently has 6 million customers and plans to offer free Jio 4G SIM card to 50 million people by the end of fiscal year.
