Honor 8 with 12MP dual rear cameras, Kirin 950 SoC gets official


Huawei's sub-brand Honor has officially unveiled the successor of Honor 7, the Honor 8. Just like the Huawei P9/P9 Plus, Honor V8, and Honor 6 Plus, the Honor 8 sports dual rear cameras.

Design-wise Honor 8 sports a 7.45mm slim body with metallic frame and a layer of 2.5D Glass is laid on front and back, giving it an elegant look. The fingerprint scanner is at the back and the phone houses Hybrid Dual SIM slot which means the second SIM slot accepts either microSD card or nano SIM card.

The Honor 8 comes with 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by 2.3GHz octa-core Kirin 950 processor with Mali T880-MP4 GPU, and runs Android Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top. It comes in three storage variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage / 4GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. Storage expansion is supported via microSD card (up to 128GB).

The dual rear camera at the back is of 12-megapixel unit each, accompanied by dual-tone LED, f/2.2 aperture, laser auto focus and 1.76 micron pixels size delivering brilliant image quality in low light conditions. For video calling and selfies there's 8-megapixel camera on the front.

For connectivity, it supports 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, Infrared sensor, NFC and USB Type-C. It is backed by 3000mAh battery and supports fast charging.

The Honor 8 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model is priced at CNY 1999 ($299 | Rs. 20,000), 4GB RAM + 32GB storage model is priced at CNY 2299 ($343 | Rs. 23,000) and the 4GB RAM + 64GB storagge model costs CNY 2499 ($374 | Rs. 25,000).

It comes in Pearl White, Sunrise Gold, Midnight Black, Sakura Pink and Sapphire Blue colors. The Honor 8 is now available for order in China and will go on sale starting July 19.
