Sony Crowdfunds Wena Wrist, a classic watch with smart features


Sony announced a new smartwatch called the Wena Wrist. The company will be using its First Flight crowdfunding platform for funding Wena Wrist smartwatch in Japan.

Wena stands for Wear electronics Naturally and looks similar to traditional looking watched with round dial, analog hands. The smartwatch mainly focuses on three main features- NFC, activity tracking and display notifications from supported devices. 

Wena Wirst alerts users of incoming notifications by vibrating and by blinking an LED light. It comes in two variants, Wena Wrist 'Three Hands' and 'Chronograph'. The Three Hands model offer a battery life of three years, while the Chronograph model is rated to deliver five years of life. However, the band which will have the suite of sensor need to be charged on a weekly basis. At the moment, activity tracking is only available for iOS devices. The smartwatch comes in silver and black metallic colors.

The Wena Wrist prices range from ¥34,800 ($287) for a silver Three Hands model up to ¥69,800 ($576) for the Chronograph in black. It is expected to ship in March and April next year.
