Xiaomi introduces colorful new MIUI 8


Xiaomi at its event in China, announced the latest version of its custom ROM dubbed MIUI 8.  Xiaomi said that MIUI now has 200 million users world-wide and MIUI users are among the most active mobile internet users.

The new MIUI interface gets more colorful, comes with brand new design and is loaded with new features. MIUI 8 comes with a new Wallpaper Carousel feature which offer high-quality daily lock screens and will include 12 categories in total and will be provided from over 50 media partners. It comes with Notes app, which allows you to enable password and fingerprint unlock to secure the note. It has grid view and comes with a new Memo template.

The new Calculator app offer currency conversion for certain currencies, tax calculation, Celcius to Fahrenheit degree conversion and more. The interface also comes with Power Saving Mode, which freezes background app activity to extend the battery life.

Xiaomi has revamped the Gallery app on MIUI 8, which now gets more space, new editing tools and new features. You can draw doodles or add stickers to your photos. You'll also be able to edit videos in forms of cropping, adding filters, captions and music. The new Gallery app also offers Quick share controls to users.

For Chinese users, Xiaomi has introduced a new font called Mi Lanting the refines and enhances reading experience on mobile devices. Other features include QR scanner, detection of scam and fraudlent message and Multi-windows mode management.

Xiaomi said that the MIUI 8 China ROM will be available for beta registration starting May 16 and the testing of the beta build starts June 1. The first Developer ROM will be available starting June 17. The MIUI 8 Developer ROM will support devices including Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5 and Mi Max, Mi Note series and Mi Redmi series.
