Moto G 2nd Gen gets Rs. 3000 price cut in India, now available for Rs. 9,999

Motorola India has announced a price cut of Rs. 3,000 on its Moto G (gen 2). The handset is now available via Flipkart for Rs. 9,999, down from launch price of Rs. 12,999. This is a permanent price cut and is the first since its launch in the country last year in September.

Mototola announced the news via Facebook post that read "Surprise surprise! The brand new Moto G can be yours at just Rs. 9,999."

In the recent weeks, many smartphones in India has received price cut. Xiaomi slashed the priced of their devices, the Mi 4 16GB variant is available for Rs. 14,999 and Redmi Note 4G is available for Rs. 7,999 (down from Rs. 9,999). Earlier today Xiaomi also announced Rs. 1000 price cut on Redmi 2 which is now retailing for Rs. 5,999 (down from Rs. 6,999).

The price cut on Moto G 2nd gen could be Motorola's attempt to keep the device relevant in the budget phone segment. The announcement also comes a day before Lenovo K3 Note is going to make its sales debut in India via Flipkart which is also priced Rs. 9,999.

To remind you, Moto G 2nd gen features 5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display and is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU. On-board storage is 16GB and there is option for storage expansion. Camera features include 8-megapixel rear & 2-megapixel front facing camera. It features the usual connectvity suite (3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE). It is backed by 2070mAh battery and runs Android Lollipop.

Unfortunately there is no 4G LTE support on Moto G 2nd Gen. In a market that is being flooded by affordable 4G phones, it will be interesting to see whether the price cut does any good for Motorola.
